POSITION RANGE: $59,740 - $134,070 per year
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The school social worker shall be a trained professional that provides student assessment and guidance, identifies developmental, learning and behavioral needs of students. The goal of this position is to maximize student achievement through screening, assessment, individual and/or group support and/or skill building services and consultation for students with significant educational/social/emotional needs and/or IEPs. Utilize the information gleaned to determine optimal support or guidance for the students. Collaborate with teachers; involve staff, and parent/guardian regarding steps to improve the development of the students as they move toward adulthood. Design and implement research-based programs and interventions to assure students are receiving the most up to date and proven techniques. Act as liaison between students, teachers, involved staff and parent/guardians. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders. May assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Supervised by Executive Director of Exceptional Student Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participation in the process of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and identification of students suspected of having disabilities and other barriers that impede learning.
  • Individual and/or group support and/or skill building with students experiencing mental health and/or social issues.
  • Developing and implementing student support programs for identified students.
  • Collection of biopsychosocial and developmental history data and compilation of information gathered into a comprehensive report for the purpose of evaluation and/or consultation.
  • Participate in school based plans for emergency situations and crisis intervention.
  • Increasing parent involvement in the schools through networking, parent training, phone contacts and home visits.
  • Navigating service support systems accessing resources for students and their families.
  • Collaboration with teachers and other staff in areas of student need, e.g. behavior management, crisis, abuse, etc.
  • Documentation, which includes but is not limited to, record keeping, progress notes, data collection for progress toward goals on IEPs and progress monitoring, and student demographic information.
  • Participation as a building level Child Study/CARE Team member to address individual student needs.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Executive Director of Exceptional Student Services.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Possible supervision of support personnel.
  • Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to interview participation, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems.

BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of equipment and assessments.
  • Project needs for budget planning.
  • Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
  • Review services for improvements and make changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual (preferred).
  • Master's degree in school psychology or school social work.
  • Certified through the National Association of School Psychologists, if applicable.
  • English fluency will be determined through the application and interview process.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Valid Colorado Special Services License with School Psychologist or Social Worker endorsement.
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education - Bilingual endorsement or equivalent (preferred or willing to obtain within 2 years).

  • Provide support to homeless youth and families.

  • Adhere to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies.
